As the Bavarian State Ministry of the Interior, for Sport and Integration (Stmi) reports, Minister President Dr. Markus Söder and Interior Minister Joachim Herrmann will open the newly created drone competence and defense center in Erding. The facility serves to bundle and further develop capabilities for defending against drone attacks.
The center is intended to act as a central point of contact for all questions relating to drone defense in Bavaria. It will be equipped with state-of-the-art technology to detect, identify and, if necessary, neutralize drones at an early stage. The opening is part of the Bavarian security strategy, which responds to the increasing threat from unmanned aerial vehicles.
Interior Minister Herrmann emphasized the importance of the center in advance: "With the drone competence and defense center, we are creating a powerful unit that supports our security authorities in the fight against drone attacks." The center will work closely with the police, fire department and other aid organizations.
The exact details of the opening ceremony, such as date and time, were not given by the Stmi press office. However, interested media representatives were invited to attend the opening. Further information is to be announced during the event.
Bavaria is responding to the growing danger from drones, which can be used for both criminal and terrorist purposes. The center is not only intended to improve defense, but also to drive forward the development of new technologies. Experts from various fields will work together there to increase security in airspace.
The opening of the center is another building block in Bavarian security policy. In the past, the Free State had already taken measures to equip the police with drone defense systems. The new center is intended to coordinate and intensify these efforts.
Minister President Söder stated: "The safety of citizens is our top priority. With the drone competence and defense center, we are facing the new challenges and protecting Bavaria from dangers from the air."
The center will be located in Erding, where the Bavarian Police Helicopter Squadron is already stationed. The spatial proximity is intended to enable synergies and facilitate cooperation between the various units.
The exact costs and staffing of the center have not yet been published. However, the Stmi announced that the center would be staffed with highly qualified personnel specially trained for drone defense.
With the opening of the center, Bavaria underlines its pioneering role in internal security. The federal state is one of the first in Germany to create such a specialized facility. Other states and the federal government are watching the development with interest.
