Cyclists demand better bike lanes in Munich demo

Around 5,000 cyclists took part in a star-shaped ride through Munich on Sunday, demanding a safe and complete network of bike paths. The protest, organized by the German Cyclists' Association (ADFC), caused temporary road closures including a section of the A95 motorway.

The bicycle demonstration in Munich drew around 5,000 participants on Sunday, who rode on closed roads and the A95 motorway to Königsplatz. The event was held under the motto ‘Five years of the Munich Cycling Decision: Where are our bike paths?’ and was organized by the German Cyclists’ Association (ADFC) and its alliance partners.

The cyclists started from around 100 points, including cities such as Augsburg and Rosenheim, and were accompanied by about 1,000 police officers. During the demo, there were temporary closures and detours in city traffic as well as on the A95, which was closed for about an hour.

Andreas Schön, first chairman of ADFC Munich, emphasized the urgency of better cycling conditions: ‘Munich finally needs a safe, complete network of bike paths. This is only possible if traffic space is distributed more fairly and cyclists get more room.’
