According to projections reported by Zeit, the far-right party ELAM (Ethniko Laiko Metopo) is in third place in Cyprus’s parliamentary election. The party, which advocates a hard line on migration policy and closer ties with Russia, could significantly expand its influence in the Cypriot parliament.

The conservative Democratic Rally (DISY) and the communist Progressive Party of Working People (AKEL) are locked in a tight race for first place. Both camps are nearly tied according to projections, so the final vote count must be awaited.

The election is seen as a test of the political mood in Cyprus, which has been divided since 1974. Final results are expected later on Monday.
