Deniz Undav is the super-sub of the German national team at the World Cup in the United States. The Lower Saxony native, known for his relaxed manner and direct language, has quickly won over fans. In the 2-1 test win against Ghana, he came off the bench to score the winning goal in the style of Gerd Müller.

Head coach Julian Nagelsmann is deliberately using Undav as a specialist from the bench. He does not believe the striker can last 90 minutes for eight games under the climatic conditions of the American summer. Undav sees it differently: “I’ve often proven that I can be creative for 90 minutes even when I start.” Nagelsmann, however, sticks to his role distribution for the tournament.

EuroPulse reported on Undav on June 13, 2026, ahead of the World Cup opener: “Scoring goals is my job” (https://europulse.today/deniz-undav-vor-wm-auftakt-tore-machen-ist-mein-job/).
