Former British minister Anne Widdecombe was murdered in her home on 8 July. According to Ukrainska Pravda citing the BBC, the 78-year-old suffered 21 hammer blows to the head.

Prosecutors on Tuesday gave the first details of the violent crime before the Westminster Magistrates’ Court. The defendant, Joshua Kerry, is alleged to have driven to Widdecombe’s estate in rural western England on 8 July, entered through the front door, and attacked the homeowner during lunch. The act was captured by a home security camera.

After the attack, the assailant took the victim’s wallet and fled. The following day, a gardener discovered the body because the door was open. The autopsy confirmed the cause of death: severe head injuries. Investigators believe it was a targeted killing; the motives remain unclear.

Kerry, a British citizen, was arrested on 11 July. Widdecombe served as a minister under Prime Minister John Major in the 1990s and left the House of Commons in 2010. She later joined Nigel Farage’s populist Reform UK party and acted as its spokeswoman for migration and legal affairs.
