The explosion occurred around 9:00 p.m. local time on Rue Révérend Père Louis Frolla, near the French border. Police said an unknown person placed a backpack containing a homemade explosive device at the building entrance and then fled on foot to France. Authorities are searching for the suspect.
Two of the injured are in critical condition, including a woman who reportedly had to have a leg amputated. A 13-year-old boy suffered moderate injuries. The Monaco prosecutor’s office is investigating attempted murder, not terrorism. Head of government Christophe Mirmand called it a “deliberate attack” – the first such incident in the principality’s history.
Yermolaiev, 58, is from Dnipro and founded the trading and production company Alef. He was listed on Forbes’ list of the 100 richest Ukrainians, gave up his Ukrainian citizenship in 2019, and took Cypriot nationality. In 2023, President Volodymyr Zelensky imposed sanctions on him because his companies allegedly paid taxes to Russia in occupied Crimea. In late 2025, his son Arthur was arrested in Cyprus at Interpol’s request.
