The exhibition runs from October 10, 2026, to January 31, 2027. It features more than 100 drawings by 28 Flemish artists, created between 1570 and 1650. The works come from the Kupferstichkabinett’s own holdings and are being presented in a dedicated show for the first time in 50 years.
The drawings often served as preliminary studies for paintings or prints, offering insights into the artists’ creative process. The range of subjects includes Christian and allegorical scenes, mythological and historical depictions, as well as genre pieces, portraits, still lifes, and landscapes. Many works stand out for their painterly and powerful execution.
Among the most prominent names in the show are Peter Paul Rubens, Jacob Jordaens, and Anthony van Dyck—the three principal masters of Flemish Baroque painting. Also represented are Jan Brueghel the Elder, David Teniers the Younger, and Adriaen Brouwer. The exhibition brings to life the diversity and quality of Flemish drawing art from the late 16th and early 17th centuries.
