The accident occurred on a country road in the Schmalkalden-Meiningen district. According to Bild newspaper, the 20-year-old driver of a Seat veered into oncoming traffic for reasons still unclear. In front of a curve, she collided head-on with an approaching truck.

The 63-year-old truck driver tried to swerve but could not avoid the crash. Both women – the driver and her 25-year-old passenger – were trapped in the wreckage. Despite immediate rescue efforts, all four occupants died at the scene: the two mothers and their toddlers.

An expert has been called in to reconstruct the accident. The truck driver suffered shock. The road remained fully closed for more than four hours during the investigation.
