Airport operator Fraport restarted the Skyline train on Monday, just in time for the start of the summer holidays at the end of June. The 5.6-kilometer route connects the new Terminal 3 with the rest of the airport. Fraport said that technical adjustments to the track, a comprehensive inspection of all vehicles, and several software updates had resolved the causes of the previous disruptions.

The train had only been put into service a few weeks earlier but was taken out of service at the end of May due to recurring technical problems. A bus shuttle served as a replacement. Now the train runs with up to eight vehicles at a speed of 50 kilometers per hour – previously it was up to 70 km/h. A Fraport spokesperson said the goal is to eventually return to the higher speed. Normally, the fully automated trains are designed to carry up to 4,000 people per hour over the route in about eight minutes.

Occasional technical disruptions cannot be ruled out even now. Fraport continues to conduct nightly inspections and has suspended train service between 11 p.m. and 4 a.m. daily for the time being. During these hours, the bus shuttle will again operate between the terminals.
