Germany is applying for one of the two non-permanent seats on the UN Security Council for the 2027/2028 term. Voting in the UN General Assembly begins Thursday at 4 p.m. CET, as Bavarian Broadcasting (BR) reports. Three countries are competing for the two vacant seats: Germany, Austria, and one other candidate.
The duel with German-speaking Austria is considered particularly open. Countries need a two-thirds majority of the members present and voting. BR will broadcast the election live starting at 4 p.m.
