The Fanø International Kite Festival is one of the largest kite festivals in the world. According to organizers, around 5,000 kite fliers from 26 countries attend each year, bringing about 25,000 kites. Participants range from hobbyists to experienced kite makers.

Giant stunt kites in the shape of mythical dragons, octopuses, whales, and astronauts float above the beach. Teams of enthusiasts steer the sometimes inflatable constructions together. Along the coast, visitors watch the coordinated flight shows and admire the unusual creations.

The festival has become one of the main attractions on the North Sea island of Fanø, drawing thousands of spectators to the beach each year.
