A citizen initiative initiated by the municipal council is already scheduled for July 5 on the Helsing project on the Senderwiese. The citizen initiative (BI) ‘No Drone Factory on the Senderwiese’ rejects the planned development and has now collected 869 signatures for its own referendum – 104 more than required. The initiative criticizes the wording of the council’s decision and wants to prevent the sealing of the species-rich area.
A joint election date on July 5 fails due to already printed ballots, as Nicole Dobner, personal assistant to the mayor, announced. The municipal administration now has until July 8 to check the formal requirements of the citizen initiative. If approved, a second referendum must take place within three months on a Sunday. The BI admitted that 66 signatures were objected to due to abbreviated first names but plans to submit replacements.
If the first referendum on July 5 yields a clear result, the BI will accept the vote, said Heidi Miller-Mommerskamp from the initiative. She emphasized that it is about a democratic process. The municipality sees the Helsing project as an opportunity for the economy and new jobs.
