The German Hospital Association (DKG) has expressed serious concerns about the austerity measures proposed by Health Minister Nina Warken (CDU). According to association head Gerald Gaß, implementing these plans could mean that by 2030, 49 percent of all hospital sites face a high risk of closure.
Gaß stated that under the planned savings, hospitals would lose a total of eight percent of their revenues by 2027. This could lead to every second clinic going bankrupt and trigger massive job losses, with one in ten jobs potentially affected.
Although the DKG fundamentally supports the goals of the hospital reform, it is calling for a gradual implementation over a period of about ten years. Gaß emphasizes that many facilities would not survive the planned cuts, further exacerbating the already strained situation in the sector.
