HSV Pro Dompé: 70 Day Fines for Drunk Driving

Hamburger SV winger Jean-Luc Dompé faces a hefty fine after being caught driving under the influence. The Hamburg-Mitte district court has issued a penalty order of 70 day fines, a court spokesperson confirmed to Spiegel.

The exact amount was not disclosed, but the number of day fines suggests a high five-figure sum. The penalty order is not yet legally binding; Dompé has two weeks to appeal. The 30-year-old winger was caught during a traffic check in January with a blood alcohol level of around 1.4 per mille and was later picked up at a police station after continuing on an e-scooter – a separate case is pending.

HSV had already reacted shortly after the incident: an internal club fine in the six-figure range – described by the club as a “HSV record fine” – and a two-match suspension. Dompé also has to finance 10,000 high-visibility vests for road safety and help distribute them. The professional, who has played for HSV since 2022, publicly apologized: “I absolutely failed to live up to my role model function.”

Sportingly, the season was also difficult for Dompé: injuries and illnesses limited his appearances to 20 matches, in which he contributed three goals to the team’s survival in the league.
