The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) intends to carry out inspections at Iran’s nuclear facilities. However, the Iranian government has not yet agreed to these inspections. IAEA chief Rafael Grossi said that talks on the timing of the inspections are underway.

A key background to these inspections is the control of highly enriched uranium that Iran possesses. According to Grossi, it will be important to realize the inspections in cooperation with the Iranian government. He stressed that the exact timeframe for the inspections is not decisive, as they will take place in any case.

Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Ismail Baghai had previously stated that no inspections are currently planned at war-damaged nuclear facilities. These facilities are intended for storing uranium that could potentially be used for the production of nuclear weapons. Iran has committed itself not to develop nuclear weapons.
