The 30-year-old center-back of FC Bayern Munich is facing his first World Cup. Tah looks back on the best season of his career and brings over 300 Bundesliga appearances with him. His path to the top, however, was anything but straightforward, as he himself emphasizes.

“A World Cup is something special, and I’m really looking forward to being there,” Tah said before Germany’s opening match. “I hope the German fans will soon bring out their flags – and we can contribute with good performances.” The defender impressed in his first season at Bayern with a pass completion rate of 96 percent in the Bundesliga – a record since data collection began.

Tah began his career at age 17 with Hamburger SV, later moved to Leverkusen, and made his national team debut under Joachim Löw in 2016. After several missed tournaments – including the 2018 World Cup and Euro 2021 – he finally established himself in the national team following Leverkusen’s double win in 2024. In the group stage, Germany will also face Ivory Coast, the country of his father’s origin.
