As reported by Welt, prosecutors have charged the 17-year-old adopted daughter of Iris Stalzer. The SPD mayor of Herdecke was found with life-threatening injuries in her home on October 7. The daughter is accused of threatening and torturing her in the basement for several hours.
In addition to 13 stab wounds, the 57-year-old also suffered numerous head injuries, according to the indictment. The attack took place in the small town in the Ruhr region. The case attracted nationwide and international attention.
In a first interview with the Westfalenpost, Stalzer criticized the media attention. “Health-wise, I’m doing well. What is an incredible burden is all this surrounding stuff,” she said. She had not expected such a media frenzy.
The mayor also expressed irritation at the reaction of Federal Friedrich Merz (CDU). “I don’t want to blame Mr. Merz, but to comment on things within minutes when you know so little about them, I find that extremely difficult,” she explained. She advised more restraint on social networks.
Stalzer also criticized the publication of images of her children. “I did not expect that my children would be shown, whether pixelated or not, in a situation where everything was still completely unclear,” she said. The investigation into the case continues.
