Lebanon’s Joseph Aoun has welcomed the declaration of intent between the United States and Iran aimed at ending hostilities in the Middle East. According to Deutschlandfunk, Aoun expressed his support in a phone call with the Iranian foreign minister.
The initiative comes at a time of heightened tensions in the region. Iran supports both Hamas and Hezbollah in Lebanon, both of which are involved in conflicts with Israel. Aoun’s approval signals a possible diplomatic opening.
