The West Police confirmed on Friday that they are investigating an incident in the Birmingham suburb of Stirchley where a man was struck by a van. The 30-year-old suffered a broken leg that required surgery and remains in the hospital.
The suspect was arrested at Euston Station in London, where he was near the gathering point for the “Unite the Kingdom” demonstration. Another man was also arrested on suspicion of encouraging people to attack a police officer.
A police spokesperson stated: “A 44-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of assault following a collision between a van and a pedestrian in Stirchley. The arrest was made this morning by officers, and he is being questioned by our team.”
The incident occurred on Thursday evening on Mayfield Road as flags were being removed from lampposts. The police are investigating the circumstances of the incident and the background of the demonstration.
