The yellow henchmen from the animated film series “Despicable Me” have served Dracula and Napoleon in their fictional history — but not Adolf Hitler. Director Pierre Coffin explained this in an interview with Polygon. When asked what the Minions did between 1933 and 1945, Coffin replied: “I knew you were going to ask me that. Shame on you!”
The fan theory had resurfaced with the new film “Minions & Monster,” which introduces other Minion tribes. Coffin made clear that this group also did not serve the “ultimate villain of the 20th century.” The current film is about monsters that the Minions accidentally create because they want to make a monster movie — not about Nazis.
The director also answered two other questions: no one knows exactly how Minions reproduce, and they are nearly impossible to kill. “We’ve tried several times, but they always come back alive,” Coffin said.
