The Festival begins on Saturday with an opening concert by the Armida Quartet at the Neubrandenburg Concert Church. A total of 120 concerts are planned throughout the summer, filling the region with classical music. The overture, composed by Johannes Fischer, will be performed by the four musicians of the Armida Quartet, who will also take part in 18 other performances in the area this year.
Violinist Johanna Staemmler expressed her enthusiasm for the upcoming concerts under the motto “Brahms at the Haff.” She is particularly looking forward to the performances in Ueckermünde, Koserow and Anklam, where works by Johannes Brahms will be heard. “I’m also looking forward to meeting all our musical friends again,” Staemmler said.
The Armida Quartet, which has been in existence for 20 years, has accompanied the festival for 13 years. Violist Teresa Schwamm emphasized the special atmosphere of the festival: “It’s so beautiful, so quiet, so cozy, so idyllic here. It’s just so special.”
Artistic director Ursula Haselböck is pleased that prominent artists such as Rolando Villazón and actress Mechthild Großmann will be performing at the festival for the first time this year. Villazón will present a Monteverdi evening with the Lautten Compagney Berlin, while Großmann will present a project with pianist Gottlieb Wallisch.
Wallisch will present a program called “20th Century Foxtrots,” which includes numerous world premiere recordings of classical composers from the 1920s and 1930s. These works are heavily influenced by the jazz wave that came to Europe after World War I.
The MV Festival not only offers a rich musical program but also the opportunity to enjoy the idyllic landscape of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. The combination of top-class artists and the unique atmosphere of the region promises an unforgettable experience for all visitors.
