Deutschlandfunk reports that Viktor Orbán has been confirmed for another year as party leader of the right-wing nationalist Fidesz. The decision was made even though Orbán’s party suffered a defeat in the most recent parliamentary election.
Orbán, who governed Hungary as prime minister from 2010 to 2022, thus remains at the helm of the country’s strongest opposition force. His re-election as party chairman secures him continued significant influence over Fidesz’s political direction.
