Russian forces hit Ukraine in multiple waves of ballistic and cruise missiles and attack drones overnight into 7 October. Two people were killed in Kyiv.

The strikes targeted energy facilities, including the Trypillia hydroelectric power plant, the TEC-5 combined heat and power plant, the Kremenchuk hydroelectric power plant and substations in several regions. Dnipro, Zaporizhzhia, Kremenchuk and other cities also came under fire.

Around 3:00 a.m., Russian forces launched ballistic missiles from the Bryansk region and from the south. At about 4:40 a.m. a wave of cruise missiles followed, and after 5:00 a.m. the air force reported another ballistic wave heading for Kyiv. Explosions were heard in the city shortly afterwards. The all-clear in Kyiv came only around 7 a.m.

Hits in several districts

The two fatalities were killed in the Darnytsia district, according to the Kyiv city military administration. The administration had earlier reported that a missile had apparently set a garage cooperative on fire there, while another impact landed on open ground. Mayor Vitali Klitschko also reported strikes in several other districts: on the grounds of a non-residential building in Obolon, in warehouse premises in Podil, and on an area next to a non-residential building in Shevchenkivskyi.

In the city of Pryluky in the Chernihiv region, local reports said a missile hit a five-storey apartment building. Videos circulating on social media show the destroyed building, with people possibly trapped under the rubble. There was no official information from the authorities at first. In Kremenchuk, several high-rise apartment blocks were damaged, according to the head of the Poltava region military administration, Vitalii Diakowych, and an industrial facility in the Kremenchuk district was also hit. Casualty figures are still being verified.

In Zaporizhzhia, Russia attacked a transport infrastructure facility from the air, according to the acting head of the regional military administration, Mykhailo Semikin. He did not say which facility was hit, but noted that traffic on some road sections could be restricted. There was no information on casualties. The head of the Dnipropetrovsk region military administration, Oleksandr Hansha, reported an attack on an industrial facility in Dnipro; casualty figures were still being clarified.

The previous Russian missile attack on the capital took place overnight into 30 September. Russia struck then with a combination of missiles and drones, killing a child and injuring others. For more than a month, Russia has been attacking Kyiv daily with drones, targeting energy facilities, bridges and infrastructure.
