The Russian embassy in London said Britain had “deliberately chosen to escalate the Ukraine crisis” and that the deeper its involvement in the conflict, the higher the price it would have to pay. London would face “inevitable consequences” for its actions, though the embassy did not specify what measures were being threatened.
The British Ministry of Defence (MoD) explicitly backed Ukraine. A spokesperson said Britain stands “shoulder to shoulder” with Kyiv and that Russia should have no doubt about the government’s determination to stand “against Russian aggression.” Since the start of the invasion in February 2022, Britain has been one of Ukraine’s biggest supporters.
The threat follows a wave of Ukrainian attacks deep inside Russian territory, targeting, among other things, oil refineries and logistics centers of the online retailer Wildberries. In the past two days alone, hundreds of drones were launched toward the Moscow region, it was reported. Two British companies have verifiably built drones for Ukraine; a military official confirmed their use to the BBC.
