The overnight attacks on the Ukrainian capital and the surrounding region were the deadliest of the year: 17 people died in the region, and one more in the city itself. There were also fatalities in Kharkiv and Donetsk, where one and three people were killed, respectively.
President Volodymyr Zelensky said interceptor missiles could have saved lives. Delays in the delivery of air defense systems led to “terrible casualties and destruction.” He added that the number of interceptor missiles supplied by allies this year had been “significantly reduced.”
The Russian Defense Ministry said it had struck logistics hubs and supply facilities in and around Kyiv. These were involved in the storage and delivery of weapons and the production of drones. Three cargo ships near Odesa were also hit, it said.
The Ukrainian Air Force reported that Russia had launched 24 ballistic missiles and 115 drones; 98 drones were intercepted. Data from Verify shows that the missile interception rate has dropped significantly compared to the previous year – from 66.7 percent to 44.4 percent over the same period.
