According to the Süddeutsche Zeitung, the yacht “Bright Future” had dangerously approached the frigate “Admiral Grigorovich.” The Russian crew first used signal flares and acoustic signals to warn the yacht. When it continued its approach, the commander decided to fire small-caliber weapons “in the direction of the ship.” The yacht then changed course and moved away. There were apparently no injuries or damage.
The incident occurred about 20 nautical miles south of the Isle of Wight. A spokesperson for the British Defense Ministry said they were investigating the reports. Earlier on Sunday, the British military had boarded a sanctioned oil tanker from Russia’s shadow fleet in the English Channel – the first operation of its kind to cut off Russian oil revenues for the war against Ukraine. On Monday, two British ships shadowed the Russian frigate west of Brest.
