Vyacheslav Markhaev, a Russian lawmaker from the Communist Party of the Russian Federation (KPRF), warned of a ‘social explosion’ in Russia in a Telegram post. According to the Kyiv Post, Markhaev blamed corruption, economic strain, and losses in the war against Ukraine for the situation.

In his Thursday post, Markhaev criticized rising utility costs and growing inequality. He spoke of ‘heavy losses’ among the ‘most active and reproductive population group’ and attributed them to ‘ineffective leadership.’ He also called on the authorities to present a ‘clear public plan to end the special military operation’ — warning that otherwise instability would deepen.

Markhaev also referred to reports from the presidential administration that the Kremlin’s goals of ‘denazification’ and ‘demilitarization’ of Ukraine were now limited to the occupied territories. He warned that attacks on Russian cities had not stopped and were expanding geographically.
