In Großwallstadt, Bavaria, a 23-year-old man attempted to swim across the Main River on Sunday afternoon. For reasons that remain unclear, he got into distress and disappeared beneath the water, according to police reports.
Rescue operations were temporarily suspended on Sunday evening due to darkness. A police spokesperson stated, "The acute rescue search has ended." However, the search will resume on Monday to locate the missing individual.
Approximately 100 emergency responders, including divers, boat crews, drones, and a helicopter, were involved in the search. The swimmer's companions initially searched for him themselves before calling for help.
The circumstances surrounding the swimming accident are still unclear. Police have launched an investigation to clarify the exact sequence of events. The search will continue until the missing person is found.
