The demonstrators gathered in the center of Tbilisi to underscore their demand for a stronger European orientation. One participant waved both a Georgian and an EU flag, as Deutschlandfunk reports.

Georgia has been politically divided for years between a pro-Western population and a government that is increasingly acting in an authoritarian and Russia-friendly manner. The EU granted the country candidate status in 2023, but the government under Irakli Kobakhidze is blocking reforms and moving closer to Moscow.
