Tidal has announced that the platform will continue to accept AI-generated music but will no longer pay royalties for tracks created entirely by artificial intelligence (AI). The decision was outlined in a new policy released on Monday.
Fully AI-generated music will be excluded not only from royalties but also from direct sales to fans. Starting in mid-July, Tidal will label such tracks with a visible AI symbol. The company also plans to block or remove AI music linked to fraudulent activities.
Tony Gervino, Executive Vice President and Editor-in-Chief of Tidal, said that AI taking over the music industry is not inevitable if decisive action is taken now. The responsibility for labeling AI content will also be passed on to distribution partners.
