According to the Guardian, Donald Trump abruptly ended an interview with NBC on Sunday. The former US president refused to substantiate his claims that the California gubernatorial election had been rigged. Instead, he insulted Kristen Welker, calling her “crooked” and later “dumb,” removed his microphone, and said: “That’s it, I’ve had enough. Thanks, honey. Have fun.”

On Monday, Trump doubled down on Truth Social. He shared a post by Abe Hamadeh, who broadly accused California of being incapable of conducting “free and fair elections in accordance with our Constitution.” Trump commented: “Something like that can’t have happened. Rigged election!”

The post was prompted by a Decision Desk HQ projection that Nithya Raman would finish second in the nonpartisan primary for mayor of Los Angeles. Trump claimed without evidence that this was impossible.

During the NBC interview, Trump also repeated his unsubstantiated claims of fraud in the 2020 presidential election. When asked for proof of his allegations about the California election, he became evasive and ended the conversation. Welker had earlier noted that the slow vote count in California was standard procedure.
