The accident occurred around midday on Tuesday on the A31 between Meppen and Lingen. According to police, a truck driver hit a vehicle securing a construction site near Geeste. The impact of the collision sent the safety vehicle into two construction workers, killing both at the scene. The truck driver and the driver of the safety vehicle sustained minor injuries.
The A31 is closed southbound between Geeste and Wietmarschen, with traffic being diverted. A rescue helicopter and several ambulances were dispatched, along with numerous emergency services from the fire department, rescue services, and police.
The exact circumstances and cause of the accident are under investigation, police said.
