Ukraine has attacked an oil refinery in the Russian city of Perm, according to President Volodymyr Zelensky. At least two people were killed in Russian drone attacks in eastern Ukraine.

Ukraine attacked an oil refinery in the Russian city of Perm overnight, about a thousand kilometers northeast of Moscow. President Volodymyr Zelensky announced the attack on Telegram, and media reported a fire. The information cannot be independently verified.

Since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion more than four years ago, Ukraine has repeatedly targeted Russia’s oil industry to damage the aggressor’s economy. The attacks have led to a fuel crisis: gas stations often have no petrol or ration supplies. Ukraine has recently deployed hundreds of drones against Russian targets, and several Moscow airports temporarily halted operations due to air raid alerts.

In eastern Ukraine, Russian drone attacks killed at least two people, according to Ukrainian authorities. In an attack with six drones on the village of Lebyazhe in the Kharkiv region, two women aged 66 and 73 were killed, and two other people were injured. Military governor Oleh Syniehubov reported this. Five houses caught fire, and three were destroyed.

Ukraine’s air defense reported that Russia had deployed a total of 135 drones, of which 107 were shot down. The counterstrikes are a response to the increasingly deadly attacks by Russian forces on Ukrainian cities. In July, 437 Ukrainian civilians were killed, according to the UN human rights mission – the highest number since May 2022.
