Hesse's Interior Minister Roman Poseck (CDU) has strongly condemned an attack on a municipal employee in the Langen city forest. Unknown assailants sprayed the man with a foul-smelling liquid, believed to be urine.

The incident occurred at the site of a former protest camp against gravel mining in the Langen city forest. The perpetrators used a water pistol to spray the liquid. Police secured a container at the scene containing a foul-smelling liquid, labeled with the word “urine.”

Interior Minister Poseck stated: “I find it intolerable and repulsive that emergency personnel, who are checking compliance with the legal limits of protest, are sprayed with a stinking liquid, believed to be urine, while performing their duties.” The attack was carried out from a self-built platform and was also intended to hit police officers, but missed them. One person was temporarily arrested.

In addition to the spray attack, police found further violations: pyrotechnics, wooden boards with nails, and several breaches of fire safety regulations. Despite the risk of forest fires, people had lit a campfire in the woods. Poseck emphasized that the right to freedom of assembly is broad, but the limits of the law must be respected. He criticized that protests from the left-wing fringe are increasingly turning violent.

As early as November 2025, police had cleared the illegal protest camp with treehouses at the Langen forest lake. Since summer 2024, activists had occupied the area to protect trees from being cleared for gravel mining.
