The US military has attacked more than 80 targets in Iran, according to its own statements. Among the targets hit were air defense systems, anti-ship missiles, and more than 60 boats of the Revolutionary Guard in or near the Strait of Hormuz. The regional command Centcom said Iran’s ability to disrupt shipping traffic in the strait had been impaired. A few hours later, Centcom declared the attacks over.
Iran condemned the attacks as a serious violation of the framework agreement. Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi wrote on X that decisive measures would be taken to protect national interests and security. Iranian media reported explosions in the port cities of Sirik and Bandar Abbas as well as on Qeshm Island. There were no immediate reports of casualties or damage.
Kuwait reported rocket and drone attacks during the night. The army said on X that air defense was engaged against hostile attacks. Air raid alerts were also triggered in Bahrain. The US also reinstated oil sanctions against Iran. The attacks came in response to Iranian strikes on three merchant ships in the Strait of Hormuz.
