Principal Ryan Aupperlee said in the letter that the school immediately collected the yearbooks after learning that the baby photo section included an image of Hitler as a toddler. Local law enforcement is assisting with the investigation, Aupperlee added.
In the letter, the principal emphasized that the presence of the image is incompatible with the values of East Brook Middle School. ‘Adolf Hitler stands for hatred, antisemitism, and the horrors of the Holocaust,’ he wrote. ‘A picture of him has no place in a yearbook created for our students.’
How the photo ended up in the publication remains unclear. The school did not say whether a student was responsible for including the image or how the toddler was identified as Hitler after printing.
