Health Minister Nina Warken has adjusted her draft law on the financial reform of statutory health insurance. The changes particularly affect the co-insurance of partners and manufacturer discounts on medications. The planned additional burden for co-insured partners is to be reduced to 2.5 percent of contribution income, instead of the originally planned 3.5 percent. Parents with children under twelve years of age remain exempt from the additional burden.

The statutory manufacturer discount on medications is to be more than doubled from 7 to 15.5 percent. The regular federal subsidy of 14.5 billion euros could be cut by less than the planned 2 billion euros. The coalition plans to pass the law in the Bundestag this week. This is intended to cover a gap of 18.8 billion euros for 2027 in order to prevent further contribution increases.
