The city of Wiesbaden announced that a 500-kilogram unexploded bomb from World War II was found on Tuesday afternoon during exploratory work at the access road to the Lucius D. Clay Barracks in Erbenheim. The defusing or controlled detonation of the bomb is scheduled for Wednesday at 11 a.m.

To ensure the safety of residents, an area with a radius of 700 meters around the discovery site will be evacuated. Approximately 50 residents must leave their homes by 9 a.m. on Wednesday. For those who cannot find accommodation with family or friends outside the exclusion zone, a care facility will be set up at the Johanniter rescue station in Amöneburg.

The A66 highway between Erbenheim and Nordenstadt will be closed starting at 10:30 a.m., and the Wiesbaden-Cologne train line will also be affected. Additionally, there will be minimal disruptions to bus services. The city has informed the public about the measures to ensure a smooth process during the defusing operation.
