Germany's Digital Minister Karsten Wildberger (CDU) has come under scrutiny for using artificial intelligence (AI) to write his speeches and texts. A ministry spokesperson confirmed that Wildberger uses AI as a support tool to promote productive engagement with the technology. According to a report by "Zeit," Wildberger had several guest articles and speeches largely written by AI.

The texts were analyzed using detection software, which found that an article in "Handelsblatt" from April 2026 was almost entirely AI-generated. A speech before the Atlantic Council in Washington, D.C., in July 2024 also came entirely from an AI, according to "Zeit." The ministry stated that no separate disclosure of AI use was made to the editorial offices, as Wildberger considers AI a supportive working tool.

The ministry spokesperson explained that each speech begins with a preliminary discussion, followed by content development by the speechwriting department. AI can be used as a sparring partner to organize thoughts and test alternative formulations. However, human review and validation of the content must always take place to avoid errors.
