Elye Wahi has been cleared to play in the World Cup match between Ivory Coast and Germany in Toronto after all, the Ivorian football association announced. The necessary entry permits for Canada have been secured.

The 23-year-old forward, on loan from Eintracht Frankfurt to OGC Nice in the second half of the season, can play against Germany in Toronto on Saturday (10:00 p.m., ZDF and MagentaTV). The association said it was pleased with the positive outcome and thanked everyone involved.

Earlier, Wahi had been denied entry to Canada. The background appears to be an investigation by the Marseille public prosecutor’s office: the player was arrested on May 29 on suspicion of organized fraud, corruption in sports, receiving stolen goods, and money laundering. After questioning, he was released, but the investigation continues.

Specifically, the case involves a Ligue 1 match on May 17, in which Wahi is suspected of deliberately provoking a yellow card. The French league had reported unusual betting patterns on a booking for the player. Whether the initially denied entry is linked to the allegations remains unclear. The association stressed that no judicial or administrative proceedings are pending against Wahi.
