On Wednesday afternoon, an American World War II bomb weighing around 100 kilograms was defused in Regensburg. The unexploded ordnance was discovered late Wednesday afternoon on Sittauerstraße. To ensure the safety of residents, an evacuation radius of 250 meters was established around the site, according to Bayerischer Rundfunk.

The evacuation began at 9 a.m. and was successfully completed. Approximately 130 emergency personnel from the fire department, police, and rescue services were deployed to ensure that all affected residents left their homes. A police spokesperson stated that the bomb disposal team would only begin the defusal once all residents within the exclusion zone had been evacuated.

The city of Regensburg provided an emergency shelter at the Donau-Arena for the evacuated citizens. For those who could not find accommodation, buses were organized to transport residents to the emergency shelter. According to city officials, only a few medical transports were needed during the evacuation, with the number in the low double digits.

The Schwabelweis district was heavily bombed during World War II due to its industrial and transportation facilities. In recent years, several bombs have been found and defused in this area. The police secured the site around the clock to ensure public safety.
