According to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, Russia fired 115 missiles of various types and nearly 1,900 glide bombs at Ukrainian cities and communities within a week. Zelensky said this on Sunday, 8 November, on Telegram, as reported by the Kyiv Post.
“In this week alone, Russia launched a total of 115 missiles of various types and nearly 1,900 guided aerial bombs against our cities and communities,” Zelensky is quoted as saying. He said these were combined attacks with a large share of ballistic missiles; a considerable portion of the missiles had been produced specifically this year.
If the world does not have enough interceptor missiles to protect Ukrainian airspace, “the missiles must be stopped at the assembly lines,” Zelensky said. “We are counting on a strong 22nd sanctions package from the EU.” Kyiv shares with its partners intelligence on Russian arms plants, component suppliers and intermediary brokers involved in the serial production of ballistic weapons. In October, Ukraine imposed its own extensive sanctions packages against individuals and companies in Russian arms production; these must be followed up in the EU and the G7 states.
On Sunday morning, Russia also attacked the village of Komyshuvakha in the Zaporizhzhia region with an FPV drone, according to Zelensky. According to the president, the attack hit the community on the seventh consecutive day on which rescue workers have been clearing debris after an air strike on 2 November; at that time, according to these reports, 55 civilians were killed. Emergency workers warned that more victims could lie under the debris.
In the Dnipropetrovsk region, attacks on energy facilities left consumers in Dnipro and surrounding districts without power, the Kyiv Post writes, citing Zelensky. He described the situation in the Kharkiv region as tense, with extensive hourly power cuts there. In the Zhytomyr region, the central district heating for 140 apartment buildings was interrupted; repair crews were deployed.
On Saturday evening, an attack hit the port city of Odesa and, according to the head of the city’s military administration there, Serhii Lysak, killed one person, damaged urban infrastructure and caused a fire in a non-residential building; blast waves damaged windows of neighbouring residential buildings. On Saturday, Russian drones also hit private commercial businesses in two locations in Kremenchuk in the Poltava region, four people were injured, and fires broke out in industrial facilities. In the night to Saturday, 7 November, according to these reports, Russia fired 36 ballistic missiles at Kyiv and the region as well as 172 combat drones; high-voltage substations connecting the Rivne and Khmelnytskyi nuclear power plants with central Ukraine were damaged, as was the northern bridge over the Dnipro. Nine civilians were injured in the capital region.
