Alex Deagoue, 57, works as a bus driver for Verkehrsbetriebe Hamburg-Holstein (VHH) while also serving as the mayor of his hometown Niambli in Ivory Coast. This unique dual role allows him to transfer experiences from Germany to his home country. Deagoue operates on 10 to 15 routes in the Hamburg area and particularly enjoys the quiet drives through villages north of Hamburg.

In an interview with Spiegel, Deagoue explained that he has lived in Germany since 2000 and has only been a bus driver for about ten years. Previously, he held various jobs, including training as a truck driver, which was facilitated by the employment agency. He aims to leverage these experiences in his role as mayor to bring about positive changes in Niambli.

Deagoue emphasizes that people in Germany are often more reserved than those in his homeland. However, as a bus driver who communicates frequently with passengers, he feels in his element. His favorite routes are lines 478 and 578, which take him through tranquil rural areas.

His commitment as mayor includes improving living conditions in Niambli, where he seeks to address the challenges faced by his community. Deagoue views his work in Germany as an opportunity to gain valuable experiences that he can bring back to his home.
