Ukrainska Pravda reported, citing Ukraine’s Defense Ministry, that Russia has officially used chemical munitions more than 13,300 times since the start of the full-scale invasion. The data was presented by Colonel Valerii Veber, deputy head of the Main Directorate for Mine Clearance, Civil Protection and Environmental Safety, at a meeting in Chișinău.

While the use of chemical weapons in 2023 was still largely episodic, the intensity rose dramatically from 2024 onward. In the first half of 2026, the level remains consistently high along the entire front line, the ministry said.

Ukraine called on its partners to strengthen support in chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear (CBRN) security. Veber presented project proposals to foreign colleagues, which G7 countries are currently reviewing – with the aim of providing additional funding and technical assistance to the Ukrainian armed forces.
