As reported by “Welt”, the Federal Court of Auditors has completed an audit of the Foreign Office’s funding of Islamic Relief Germany. The results are now public: the authority criticizes the ministry for awarding millions of euros to the organization, even though the federal government itself sees links between Islamic Relief and the Muslim Brotherhood.

Islamic Relief Germany is a Muslim aid organization that says it supports humanitarian projects worldwide. However, the federal government accuses it of ideological proximity to the Islamist Muslim Brotherhood. Despite these concerns, according to the report, significant sums from the federal budget flowed to the organization over the years.

In its audit, the Federal Court of Auditors criticizes that the Foreign Office apparently failed to adequately monitor the allocation of funds. The organization was funded “flying blind,” without the allegations against it being sufficiently examined. The Foreign Office has not yet issued a final statement on the matter.
