Ukrainian authorities have warned the public of an increased threat of a Russian air strike on Kyiv. According to broadcaster 24tv, Russia may be planning a combined attack that could involve the Oryeshnik missile. The warning was publicly issued by both the US Embassy in Kyiv and President Volodymyr Zelensky.

On the evening of May 23, 2026, the US Embassy in Kyiv warned of a possible massive air attack within the next 24 hours. Diplomats advised identifying shelters in advance, installing a warning app, stocking up on water, food, and medicine, and responding immediately to air raid alerts. The warning was not about mere alarm reports but about concrete preparations for a combined strike against Ukraine, particularly Kyiv.

Security expert Pavlo Lakiichuk, head of security programs at the Center for Global Studies “Strategy XXI,” told 24tv that people should not focus solely on the missile’s name. “Oryeshnik – that’s a lot of noise from both sides, but any weapon can cause great damage,” Lakiichuk said. The key is to see the threat more broadly: if a strike hits dense urban areas or the city center, the consequences would be severe regardless of the missile type – whether Oryeshnik, Kinzhal, or Iskander.
