According to Tagesschau, the centrally located ARD studio in Kyiv was massively damaged in the heavy Russian attack. A shockwave likely caused windows to burst and walls to collapse. No staff were in the building during the attack; structural safety now needs to be assessed.

Studio director Wassili Golod said he was shaken: “Torn-out window frames, splinters everywhere, destroyed equipment – seeing your own workplace completely devastated is a shock.” He added that Russian air attacks have been massive and ruthless for years, part of the brutal reality of life in Ukraine. Golod emphasized his respect for the team, which refuses to be intimidated and continues reporting.

Despite the damage, the ARD team is continuing its coverage using mobile technical solutions and alternative locations. WDR director Katrin Vernau expressed relief that no one was injured. She said the incident once again shows the dangerous conditions under which the team has been working for years, and that the colleagues are doing everything to inform about Russia’s war of aggression.
