The attack on May 24 systematically targeted historic buildings and monuments in the Ukrainian capital for the first time. Head of the Kyiv City Military Administration (KCMA) Tymur Tkachenko said the struck objects included the Foreign Ministry, the Chernobyl Museum, the Art Museum, the International Center for Culture and Arts, the Cabinet of Ministers, and dozens of other buildings.

The historic Podil district, a historic center of Kyiv, was hit particularly hard. Tkachenko said the damage there was the worst since the war began. Russian troops also shelled the area around the Lukianivska metro station and adjacent streets again. Residential buildings, schools, and clinics were also hit.

According to the KCMA, 86 people were wounded, including three children. Two people were killed. Tkachenko emphasized that the Russians intended to cause even greater damage. Many people saved themselves only by staying in shelters. At nearly 50 locations, thousands of rescue workers, city and district services, and volunteers were deployed.
