Zia Yusuf, Reform UK’s home affairs spokesman, publicly distanced himself from a statement by Robert Jenrick on Tuesday. According to the Guardian, Yusuf said on social media that Jenrick’s answer was not Reform UK policy. Jenrick, who serves as treasury spokesman, told Sky News on Sunday that a foreign national living in the UK would not be automatically deported solely for receiving social housing.

Yusuf clarified: “Robert’s answer is not Reform UK policy. As the person responsible for our deportation plan, I want to make sure people know where we stand: if a foreign national lives in social housing at the taxpayer’s expense, they automatically fail our economic test and will be deported.” Jenrick has not yet publicly responded to the contradiction.

The Labour Party reacted swiftly to the internal dissent. Mike Tapp, a minister in the Home Office, commented on the matter and spoke of chaos at Reform UK. The incident comes against the backdrop of a book by Times journalist Peter Chappell, which outlines a fictional scenario of a Reform UK election victory in 2029 – and in which the party collapses due to internal power struggles, among other things.
