Union and SPD had agreed on a reform of the Federal Training Assistance Act (BAföG) in their coalition agreement. The goal was more money for students and a simpler application process. But Research Minister Bär (CSU) no longer expects it to be implemented.
Bär told BR that there is no longer support for the reform. This means the project, which was one of the coalition’s key education policy initiatives, has likely failed for now. The minister did not give specific reasons for the lack of backing.
